You can find a demo file for LookIt! & PopIt! in the GEnie library, file
#15719. There is also a press release describing the features of these new
products called LP_PRESS.TXT, file #15720.
LookIt is "The ultimate ST file viewer/binary editor". It's blindingly fast
and easy to use, featuring a custom user interface that Doug Harrison (its
author) has developed.
PopIt is a desk accessory that lets you assign "hot keys" to your desk
accessories (including those in MultiDesk) and call them up simply by typing a
key.
Check out the demo or just order LookIt! & PopIt! simply because you know that
it's a CodeHead product worthy of its position in the CodeHead line.

The current versions are Lookit 1.2 and PopIt 1.1. The update price is $10
(send in your original disk). We've talked to Doug about an update to PopIt
to allow more than 32 ACCs (since MDD now allows 96) but there's no release
date set yet.

Is it possible to have a radio button in the "save block" dialog
that will save the block to the GEM clipboard? I'm beginning to use the
clipboard more and more.
Or course LookIt would have to save the Clipboard path somewhere too.

I've just received an imcompatibility report with K-Graph. Apparently if
REGACC and PopIt are installed (and nothing else), it affects K-Graph. The
objects are "frozen" in place and can't be moved (dragged) with the mouse.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Does anyone else even have K-Graph?
I'd like to find out why this is happening.
Ken,
The clipboard path is always (usually?) in the root directory of the current
drive. You could manually save your block to \SCRAP.TXT if you don't want to
wait for this feature to be added to LookIt. <grin>

The report is not a crash. With PopIt (and REGACC) installed the K-Graph
objects become unmovable on the screen with the mouse. Let me know if you
have the same results.

Okay, are the "usual suspects" Turbo ST, Pinhead, LGS, and Hotwire (along
with their auto folder minions) active?
I'll try it as soon as I log off. Wait! I can do it now. The icons on the K-
graph desktop did NOT move. I'll have to reboot and clear the system for the
other. My online connections don't survive that all the time.

I confirm the report, John. I even removed MDD from the set-up to insure that
no garbage ACCs in there were conflicting with K-Graph, REGACC, and PopIt.
The k-graph desktop icons would not move.
If you have any other questions feel free to ask.
Oh! Mega STE, TOS 2.05, Auto folder stripped down to folderXXX, deskmanager,

Codeheads,
I recently placed CodeHead Ed in my MultiDesk Deluxe (v3.3) MULTDESK.MDX
folder and, as a result, it now is available as a non-resident desk accessory
on my system. However, when I went to use PopIt (v1.1) to assign a Hot key
sequence to Codehead Ed, it was not listed along with the other desk
accessories that were available. Thinking that the problem was that REGACC.PRG
hadn't seen the new CodeHead Ed desk accessory when I booted, I rebooted my
system, but CodeHead Ed still was not in PopIt's list of desk accessories.
Thinking that I might have a corrupted POPIT.CFG file in my root directory, I
deleted the old one, rebooted, and recreated that file from scratch. Still no
CodeHead Ed in PopIt.
My question is this: can I use PopIt to assign a hot-key combination to
call up CodeHead Ed or can I only use the CALL_ED.PRG program in conjunction
with HotWire to create a hot-key to do this?

C.F.JOHNSON [CodeHead] at 14:47 EST
Mike,
The problem is that the current version of PopIt! is limited to 32
accessories. PopIt! just stops looking inside MultiDesk as soon as it finds
32 DAs (resident or nonresident), and I'd venture to guess that when you added
CodeHead ED to your MDX folder it ended up further down the list than that.
One way to get around this (until there's an update to PopIt! that increases
the limit) is to reorder your MDX folder, by creating a new MDX folder, then
copying the accessories into it so that the ones to which you want to assign
hot keys are among the first 32. When MDD searches the MDX folder, it finds
the DAs in the order they were copied into it.
Note that PopIt! will find the resident accessories first, so the limit on
hot-key-assignable nonresident DAs will actually be 32 minus the number of
resident DAs.

it, but I'm not sure if it's something that can be fixed in PopIt.

How much to upgrade LookIt&PopIt from 1.1/1.0 to 1.2/1.1 (or whatever might
be even later)?
I found that PopIt doesn't see ACC's that are in their own folders within the
MDD folder. I assume that's the type of ACC access that was corrected with
that upgrade of PopIt. (I'm sure it's been addressed here.)

Right now I have two acc's nested in their own folders (named after the
acc's.), and PopIt 'sees' them alright and can call 'em up as mdx's. But if
you eventually add too many mdx's to your MDD folder, nested or not, some will
start working their way off your PopIt list. I forgot right now what the
upper limit is, that PopIt can display. I'm using PopIt 1.1.
JENOS,
I seem to recall a long time ago that someone mentioned this sort of
problem, but I can't remember what tsr/acc. was causing the conflict. I'll
let John or Charles answer that one. Thanks!

I'm having a bit of trouble with PopIt. Here's the set-up. I'm using HotWire,
MaxiFile, ArcShell and PopIt (all latest versions). I have it set up so that
.LZH and .ARC files are documents for ArcShell. So, I often double-click on
such a 'document' from within MaxiFile in order to call up ArcShell to de-arc
or list the archive contents. A slick way to do business.
The problem is, this only works if MaxiFile was called up by clicking on the
MaxiFile icon in HotWire. If I call up MaxiFile by using the hotkey defined in
PopIt, ArcShell will not get called when I double-click on an LZH or ARC file.
Instead, I get the file information/modification dialog for the file.
Lessee, what else do you need to know... this is TOS 1.4 and, MaxiFile is
being run as a regular DA (not in MultiDesk).
I hope there's a fix or work-around for this!

Andy,
That isn't a problem; that's the way it's supposed to work. MaxiFile needs
to be called by clicking its icon (or typing F10 from the HotWire menu) in
order to launch programs or documents. This is how MaxiFile knows it can pass
the message back to HotWire, telling it to run the requested program.

Andy,
That's just the way it works. If you call MaxiFile from any place other
than HotWire, then it won't tell HotWire about the call, and HotWire is not in
the execution chain. You will also find that you can't run programs from
MaxiFile when you call it through LGS.
I don't know if it is possible for Charles to make either of these things
work, but I would also like to be able to do both of these things. I guess
there have to be SOME limits to what these programs can do....

Kene,
I am past that part, I am all ready in Look-It when this happens and
sometimes I forget and think that there are no more files in that directory.
Let me try to explain it again. Look-It is installed as a application
with the following extensions: TXT, DOC, ASC, ME. I click on one of those
files and it goes into Look-It great. While in Look-It, I leave that file and
go to Look-It's menu. I go to open another file (without leaving Look-It) and
it shows no files, I have to click on a extension to see any files at all in
the directory window. It is not a major problem, just annoying.
If you install Look-It as a application with *.* as a extension and
click on a program file, Look-It goes into hex mode instead of running the
program...

Jeff,
Run LookIt, bring up the file selector (using "Open"), and select the
extension you desire, such a "*". While you're at it, make sure you've got
your desired sort option chosen (such as "N" for Name). Exit from the file
selector and "Save" your configuration. Saving your configuration allows you
to configure various aspects of the program to your own preferences. Perhaps
you previously saved your config with a little-used extension such as "C".
If you want to install LookIt for a wild card extension ("*"), please read the
README file. It details exactly how to do this.

I just upgraded LookIt/PopIt to 1.2/1.1. I thought this one remedied PopIt's
problem of not finding ACC's inside folders that are themselves inside the
MULTDESK.MDX folder.
I think PopIt _IS_ finding them .... well, some of them. It appears
(1) that PopIt is limited to 28 non-resident ACC's and
(2) that PopIt possibly begins it's search for the 28 ACC's by
looking FIRST for those ACC's that are files within MULTDESK.MDX
and THEN looking inside MULTDESK.MDX for FOLDERS containing ACC's.
On top of that, it even seems that the folders are taken alphabetically
instead of in the order they were created.
Is the limit of 28 accurate? Or am I doing something wrong?
Is the "files then folders" process accurate? I had to move one ACC outside
it's folder so I could assign it a PopIt Hotkey. No trouble after that,
though.

John,
PopIt shows me 38 ACC's. That's 10 from my root directory (named either .ACC
or .ACX) and 28 from my MDD folder.
Hmm-m-m. That's actually the 6 that the system recognized (including PopIt
and MDD) +PLUS+ 32 (of the 43) that MDD is handling.
I just wanted to be able to access a particular non-res ACC via a PopIt Hotkey
combo. But that ACC is in its own folder inside the MDD folder. So, it
wouldn't show up in PopIt.
My workaround was to move it out of its folder and put it high enough among
the other MDD ACC's so PopIt would get it.
+++
Am I overlooking a way to keep certain ACC's from showing up in PopIt? I have
quite a few that I wouldn't mind getting out of there. That'd leave plenty of
room for additional ones.
Maybe a file like MDD's .MLT files. It could list specific files that PopIt
would _ignore_ at bootup.

I love Lookit, but I am one of those who wants to stick with my favorite file
selector (LGFS) rather than use Lookit's. Would it be possible for the next
version of Lookit to either call MaxiFile directly or allow selection of
multiple files using MaxiFile via LGFS?

Bruce,
Yes, LookIt can be installed as a "catch-all" installed program in any
DESKTOP.INF or NEWDESK.INF GEM desktop system on any TOS. The README file
tells you how to do this. Once installed this way, it will be called whenever
there are no other installed applications for the document's extension
(replace the "Show/Print/Cancel" box). This is definitely the best way for a
file shower/viewer to be installed because it takes _no_ memory until it is
called.

Select the Screen item from the Options menu, then turn off "Custom File

installed file selector. I use LookIt this way myself, with the Little Green

True, but the 'downside' of that is that you have to wait for the
shower/viewer to LOAD, which may be a while, from cassette, or a slow HD. But
then *I* use MaxiFile, as long as the file is ASCII, and I don't need to SEE

John, you mentioned that LookIt can be installed as a catch all installed
program in order to be able to doubleclick on a text file and then use LookIt
in place of the desktop's viewer. You mention a README file that describes
this. What README file exactly to you mean? LookIt's or TOS 2.06's (which I
can't find)? I made LookIt an installed app but it then runs everything I
click on including the Aladdin icon that I have on the regular desktop. Can
you be more specific about how to set this feature up. Also, I notice that it
runs LookIt and I then have to actually EXIT LookIt when I'm done viewing.
This seems more cumbersome than Maxi's view feature, for example. Comments?

Thanks for your reply...I must not have phrased my question well enough. I've
used LGFS since day one with Lookit! The drawback is that you can only select
one file at a time with LGFS. I know that you can then call Maxifile from
LGFS, but you can still only pass one file back to Lookit. What I'd like to
see is a method of allowing Maxifile to select multiple files to pass to
Lookit in one shot. I'm not sure if this could be done throught the file
selector interface, but perhaps a direct call to Maxifile (ala ArcShell) would
work?

problem with PopIt. Here goes:
I have REGACC.PRG as the last program to run in my AUTO folder. Since the

is. My problem is that I can call an accessory once, and then it will ignore
any further calls _until_ I run a program (any program), then I can use my

If you'll look at the directory line, you'll probably see "*.*" on the end of
it. LookIt treats this template in a different way. It will only show files
with characters before _and_ after the period. When you change the template to
"*" it will show all files. After doing this, just save your configuration
and you won't have the problem any more.
If you choose not to "Use Custom File Selector", you'll have to do the
reverse; use the template "*.*".

How are invoking LookIt? If it's from the TOS 2.06 desktop, there are
settings which will affect the "default" directory. These are set from the
"Desktop Configuration..." option, or from "Install Application", depending on
how you are running the program.
If you're returning to a different directory than you started from, you have
something else interfering or configured wrong. It has nothing to do with
LookIt.

I have my basic six accessories in the root of 'c', one of them is Popit.
So...when I call Popit from the desk drop down menu, I have the same six
accessories, and they work if I click on them.
In my mind, I should be able to load 'all' my accessories into Popit. I happen

Popit over there. I sure do not see how. I will accept any/all coaching. If

The GEM desktop has a limit of six accessories. Placing more than six in the
root of C will not change this limit. The desktop will just load the first
six it finds. If you want to use more than six, you'll need MultiDesk. Then
you'll have no limit. PopIt allows you to pop up any installed accessory with
a hot key, whether it is in the main drop-down menu or within MultiDesk. Up

Try using hot key combinations that are not used by the desktop. Alt-P is

One suggestion would be that if running a program, or re-running REGACC will

REGACC _is_ in the AUTO folder and as I'm booting up I can see it install
(it's the last thing in the AUTO folder), but something is grabbing it from

Swampy and John Gniewkowski,
The problem with PopIt that you describe is similar to a problem
that I have been seeing with it and that has been reported here in
this topic to the Codeheads in the past. My problem runs something
like this: I boot with HOTWIRE, REGACC, and other programs in my
AUTO folder and MultiDesk Deluxe and MaxiFile as desk accessories.
MultiDesk Deluxe, in turn, loads a set of desk accessories which does
-not- include Xcontrol Panel which is merely "initiated" (-I) flag,
but remains non-resident. Whenever I load the nonresident Xcontrol
Panel accessory to check or modify something, one or several of the
non-Atari Corporation developed CPXs (e.g., ICD's ADSCSI.CPX, the
German calculator CPX, the German ASCII Table CPX) somehow disables
PopIt, even if not used) and the only ways, after closing the Xcontrol
Panel accessory and returning to the GEM Desktop (or, in my case, to
my HotWire menu), that I have found to restore PopIt are: 1) rerun
REGACC.PRG (the program will tell you it needs to be run from the
AUTO folder, but it doesn't matter and restores PopIt to working
order), 2) call up the MultiDesk Deluxe menu and exit, and/or 3) call
up the MaxiFile screen and exit.
The PopIt program needs to be modified to fix this problem, but
that's up to the program's author, Doug Harrison, and I haven't heard
anything lately to suggest that he intends to modify or enhance PopIt
any further.

the culpret. I have it running as a resident accessory in Multidesk so maybe
it is disabling PopIt when it loads? PopIt is disabled completely by the time
I reach the desktop when I boot and have not called the CPX at all. Strange.
I guess I'll just put an icon on the desktop for REGACC and reactivate it when
I get to the desktop.
Thanks to everyone for your hints and tips!

Hmmm, I thought this problem had been fixed in RegAcc 1.1 and PopIt 1.2.
Earlier versions had this problem with programs which broke rules by failing
to appl_exit, appl_initing twice, etc., which fouled up PopIt's scheme for
determining when it's acceptable to intercept hotkeys. I've been using
XControl as a non-resident Multidesk Deluxe accessory for a long time and
haven't experienced this problem, but I'm also only using CPXs from Atari.
Can someone point me to a specific CPX file in the libraries which will allow
me to duplicate the problem?
Thanks,
Doug

If Regacc is LAST in the auto folder, I think that may be the problem. I

I'm having difficulties trying to change the colors on my TT with color
monitor system while in LookIt. One thing I notice is that I can't even access
the Control Panel's CPX's by double clicking on them when I'm in Lookit. The
Control panel itself shows up but double clicking on, for example, the Colors
CPX doesn't have an effect. (This is with the Control panel retrieved from
MultiDesk Deluxe.).
I think I tried to change LookIt's colors also with the Control Panel as a
regular desk accessory but couldn't figure out how to change the background
blue into another color. Any specific suggestions on how to do this?

Doug Harrison,
If you do install one of these "problem" CPXes, you should also specify "-I"
in your TITLES.MDX file so that XControl initializes at bootup. I think
that's what's causing the problem.
What perplexes me is that if a CPX does cause REGACC to "unhook" itself, it
would seem that the CPX is stepping out of its bounds since a CPX is not
supposed to mess with system vectors.

I removed XCONTROL from my system completely and PopIt runs just fine. I
don't have to re-run REGACC from the desk top. So something in the XCONTROL
is is the culpret. I only have four CPXs active... GENERAL, MODEM,

The troublesome ADSCSI.CPX can be found in ICD Roundtable Library
File #44 named NEWHOST.LZH. I don't have a reference for either the
German Calculator or ASCII Table CPXs, but I did download them from

Hi ya guys....any luck with getting Popit (or rather REGACC) to be updated for
compatibility with the newer TOS's? John, you'll recall we spoke on the phone
about the problem it now has with TOS 3.06 (and 2.06?) and the Alt numeric

I know you all are plenty busy these days, but gee I hate lose Popit on the

Stephen,
After we talked, I played with PopIt a little further. The conflict
disappears if you disable PopIt's hot keys. Of course, PopIt is not much use
without its hot keys, but you can disable them temporarily by either turning
them off/on from the ACC or by holding all four shift keys and pressing Tab.
For those who wonder what we're talking about, there is a feature in TOS
2.06/3.06 which uses Alt plus the numeric keypad. You can type ASCII numbers
greater than 127 to obtain extended characters. When PopIt's hot keys are
active, it disables this feature.

Jason,
It seems that with REGACC and Popit installed the feature in the newer TOS
versions (2.06 and 3.06) that allows special characters to be entered by
typing Alt and the numberic keypad ascii numbers of the character is disabled.
This shows up in Calamus SL (you run that right?) in the PKS editor for
example. You should be able to enter something like Alt #252 in PKS. Or in
the Search and Replace dialog, Alt #9 for the TAB. With REGACC and Popit and
TOS 3.06 you can't do this. Try it, if you can, please report back. Thanks.

John,
Cal 6.2a is in its own folder within the MDX folder, and I just
looked in PopIt, and found it, assigned it a hotkey, and accessed it.
The DOCS say that if the folder name is the same as the .ACC name,
then MultiDesk will find it, and it seems PopIt does also.... BTW, I

As for the limitations of PopIt, I believe that the PopIt configuration allows
the definition of 50 hot key combinations, with a maximum of 32 being active
at any one time. As for how many show up in the PopIt window, I don't really
know.
In this instance, I'm not willing to spend any time to investigate this
further because it's all academic. I'm currently using a version of PopIt
that eliminates the XControl knock-out problem and allows up to 96 hot keys.
Now that I've mentioned it publicly, it's only a matter of how much nagging we
receive to release it, before I place the priority above my more important

P.S. I have so many things left undone around here that I tend to forget

well -- if I think of something that needs doing, I just mention it here and

For instance, I wrote a little program for Aladdin that I forgot about and

PopIt HotKey trouble...
I was having trouble with my PopIt hot-keys, so I went back and downloaded the
messages in this topic back to Nov. 1, 1992. Lots of things were bantered
about, but I'm not sure was the resolution was. The messages just sort of fade
out on the subject...
1) Is there a problem with the ICD AdSCSI CPX? If so, I trust ICD has been
notified. Should we not use this CPX along with PopIt?
2) Are we awaiting a fix (and enhancements) for PopIt?
3) What was the '-I' param talked about for MultiDesk MDX's? I don't even have
a TITLES.MDX file. Once closed, even these MDX's are completely gone from
MultiDesk, right?
4) Should I be running XCONTROL as a non-res MDX? How would something like
ADSCSI CPX function as non-res (how would it accumulate its cache stats, etc)?
I'm running TOS 1.04; XCONTROL, MULTIDESK, MAXIFILE, POPIT as normal ACCs.
Looking for a little clarification...

LookIt conflict with FUJIMAUS???
If I have FUJIMAUS (with revolving FUJI and BEEWATCH) active, my mouse and
keyboard response in LookIt is S-L-U-G-G-I-S-H, to say the least. I'm talking
about responses to keys and mouse clicks that are close to 1 second apart. The
text cursor flashes very slowly also.
If I disable FUJIMAUS, everything in LookIt speeds up.
If I disable LookIt's custom FS, LGSELECT runs full speed. Other keyboard
responses, such as in the search key fields, are still slow.
I have no trouble with other programs, with FUJIMAUS active; PageStream,
STENO, EDHAK, FWPLUS, MAXIFILE, all seem OK. Is LookIt using such completely
different routines than these others?
I'm almost afraid to ask... which program is 'cheating'?

Yes, it's Fujimaus that's interfering. I noticed that slowdown a long
time ago also, when using LookIt's search function. You'd press a key and
about a second later it would appear in the search parameter line. Disable
Fuji and everything was cool again. I love the busy bee-to-watch, mouse
resurrector (worked better than any other I've seen) and the pointer parking,
but needed full speed in LookIt more, so I finally removed Fuji.

You'll find documentation of TITLES.MDX and the "-I" parameter in Appendix A -

Aha, pressing both shift keys disable/enables FujiMaus??
LookIt uses both shift keys to abort a printout. I wonder if therein lies the
source of the conflict?
Mel,
You're getting a message informing you of drive X damage? That doesn't sound
right. Does this always happen in the same program?

Mel,
I like Informer, but I stopped using it because I missed my HotWire clock, and
because of bleed-through on many screensavers. I'd love for HotWire to have
memory and drive i/o indicators.
As for your bad sector problems, have you checked your drive with Cleanup
and/or Diamond Medic?

John E.,
The GEM (TOS?) "Data on drive X may be damaged" alert pops up whenever an
iffy sector is being accessed. Sometimes when a prg loads it's rsc or my
archiver utility is adding files. Not surprising since my hd is dying a slow
death due to an ever increasing number of bad sectors. It would be nice to
have a corner utility or something that could display sectors as their being
accessed (and worked on TOS 1.6). The rapid rate at which sectors would be
displayed would be no problem since the above bad data alert would freeze it
in its tracks, hopefully right at the errant sector. I have plenty of
utilities to mark sectors as bad, I just need to know which one. :-) If
anyone knows of such a utility (remember, it has to work on TOS 1.6) on GEnie
or wherever, please post the file number or u/l it. Thanks!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Terry,
Yes, I've tried both, and about 6 other hd utilities. The marginal
sectors manage to slip past them all with flying colors, but when a program
tries to use a file with one of them in it, like loading a file or rsc with
one of these iffy sectors, it's all about "Data on drive X may be damaged"
time. :-) I've isolated the files, but some of them have lot's of sectors.
Mel,
The part of your problem that caught my attention was the fact that the
message refers to drive "X". Perhaps you're just using "X" in your messages
here to mean "the drive on which the error occurs". But if the message
actually uses the letter "X", it sounds to me like your problem lies in your
software, not your drive.
A drive "X" message would mean that the BIOS read/write call has been passed
an incorrect drive number. If this occurs while within different programs, it
could be some resident software that's interfering. You haven't been hangin'
around with any of those nasty software "gangs" again, have you? <grin>
John,
No, it's not gang related, unless there's an old Seagate gang out there
somewhere. :-) I was using the "X" in my example as a generic drive letter,
although I have seen the weirdness a time or two (not bad sector related) when
there was no drive letter in that alert, in which case you know a crash is
right around the corner.
The alert pops up with a drive letter, letting me know that the file
currently being read on that drive has a bad sector. I only wish I could id
the precise bad one and mark it out in the FAT. I haven't seen any responses
in the last few days to my queries for a sector display utility for TOS 1.6,
so I guess none exist. Oh well, I could just mark all the sectors belonging
to the known bad files. :-) Thanks!
I had the same problem a few years back with my old Hard-Drive. What the
problem was - was the controller card (Not the Host Adapter) that was going
bad. And so the drive would pop up with that error all the time. Replaced
the controller and no problems after that.
That method will work (to set your settings) until you need to make an
adjustment to one of your Control Panel settings or check something, then once
you've momentarily loaded Control Panel into memory and selected the faulty
CPX (e.g., AdSCSI), the PopIt problem will crop up and remain until you access
either the MultiDesk Deluxe or MaxiFile desk accessory.
Mel/Terry/John...more FUJIMAUS observations...
The slowdown in LookIt is easy to see by watching the text cursor in the text
filename field (it normally flashes fairly rapidly).
It appears it is only the 'Pointer-to-MousEye' option in FujiMaus that causes
the slowdown in LookIt. Disable that one option via CONFUJWE and the slowdown
disappears.
(Mel, we should be able to keep the FUJI and the BeeWatch options).
If the mouse 'goes to sleep', and changes the pointer to a MousEye, the text
cursor speeds up. You can manually do this with SHIFT/SHIFT twice.
If you move the mouse pointer so that the mouseye appears, the text cursor
speeds up. Stop moving the mouse, so the normal pointer re-appears, and the
text cursor slows down.
Therefore...it appears to be the routines that determine WHEN or IF to do the
pointer conversion that are messing up LOOKIT. Once the conversion is done,
things are OK. I believe this conversion was based on speed and/or pixels
moved, configurable in CONFUJWE.
As John mentioned, might it be the SHIFT/SHIFT scanning that is somehow
causing the conflict? I would 'guess' NO.
This problem is certainly not earth-shattering; I'm not going to spend TOO
MUCH more time on it; but I happen to like FUJIMAUS!
** Why the slowdown happens only on LOOKIT's own screens is my
real question? **
The PopIt 1.3 upgrade is now available. It allows up to 96 hot key
combinations, no longer has a problem with being kicked out by AdSCSI CPX (or
any other CPX that we know of), and it does not interfere with the
Alternate/Numeric Keypad entry of ASCII values in TOS 2.06 and 3.06.
To obtain the update, send us your LookIt & PopIt master disk and $10. You'll
get LookIt 1.2, PopIt 1.3, and REGACC.PRG 1.3.
Mike Squire,
Thanks for the clarification. BTW, I wouldn't blame the AdSCSI CPX as
"faulty". There's no proof that it's doing anything wrong. It just somehow
causes PopIt to be confused.
Works fine; no conflicts or problems!
Just got the PopIt/LookIt upgrade today and I have just one question. You have
REGACC.PRG in the AUTO folder and one in the root directory. And they are
different sizes, the one in the AUTO folder is 3372 bytes (the same size as
the old version) and the one in the root directory is 3178 bytes. Which one
is the latest version?. Thanks.
I just ran both of them. The one in the ROOT directory is the latest version
(3178 bytes).
Just to let you know that you have two different versions on the disk.
John & Charles,
One thing I noticed with PopIt! (yep I just got the latest version from you).
And please bear with my explanation.
- Install a Desk Accessories, ex. THES.ACC
- Assign a HotKey via PopIt!, ex. ALT-T for THES.ACC.
- Use MDXTITLE to change the THES.ACC to Thesaurus to make it easier to
read in MultiDesk Deluxe and PopIt!.
- Now PopIt! will display Thesaurus instead of THES.ACC, but it still
thinks that ALT-T is still for THES.ACC. You have to re-assign
and override ALT-T so it will be for Thesaurus.
Would it be possible for MDXTITLE to modify the PopIt! Config file?. Or
something like that.
Jeff,
Thanks for the suggestion. I suppose that MDX Titler could change the PopIt
config. Of course, it wouldn't take effect until you reloaded the config into
PopIt. I don't know the format of the POPIT.CFG file, either. Perhaps it's
easier to just go into PopIt and reassign the key after changing the name of
an accessory. I'd guess you don't do it very frequently.
With the advent of MultiTOS, will PopIt! be upgraded to support assigning hot
Does MultiTOS provide such a feature?
It's really nice to be able to Assign a hotkey to almost any menu item. The
extremely nice thing about it is that the hotkey assignment is visible next to
I gather that TOS doesn't have the legal calls to achieve it. The Codes a
pushing it to the limit already. I think a lot more system hacks should have
been incorporated into TOS already but I'm not a programmer so I'll try not to
Monday morning quarterback them.
Popit and Multidesk should be official software that comes with every TOS box,
